Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

In Year 1 the teachers are; Mrs Burrows, Miss Taylor and Miss Puttock. Our PPA teachers are Mr Bond, Mrs Lock and Mr Oakford.

Our teaching assistants and 1 to 1 support assistants are Mrs Collins, Mrs Lawrence, and Mrs Enticknap.

AutumnTerm

This half term in Maths we will be using the part-part-whole method to explore addition and subtraction.

We will investigate:

  • all possible sets of 2 numbers that make a given number
  • the 'counting' on and back strategy
  • using number bonds to solve problems

We will also be learning about shape and patterns in maths.

We will also be:

  • identifying, naming, classifying 2D shapes
  • describe the characteristics of different shapes

In English and Topic, we will be finding out humans and 'what makes us'. After half-term we will be learning through our new topic 'toys'.

Our main focus in writing will be using phonics to sound out words and learning how to spell key words.  In Year 1, the children are expected to be able to write a short sentence with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Predominantly, the children will have opportunities to bring in their favorite toy, look at the key text 'Dogger', learn about toys found around the world and as we approach Christmas, we will begin to think about the Nativity story and make some Christmas crackers!

We will of course be very busy in other areas of the curriculum. Click on the Curriculum Overview link below for more details.
