Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

In Year 1 the teachers are; Mrs Burrows, Miss Taylor and Miss Puttock. Our PPA teachers are Mr Bond, Mrs Lock and Mr Oakford.

Our teaching assistants and 1 to 1 support assistants are Mrs Collins, Mrs Lawrence, and Mrs Enticknap.

Spring Term

This term in Maths we will be using a variety of methods to explore addition and subtraction with numbers to 20.

We will investigate:

  • all possible sets of 2 numbers that make a given number
  • the 'counting' on and back strategy
  • using number bonds to solve problems

We will also be learning about measurement in maths.

In English and Topic, we will be finding out about dinosaurs and will be expecting a visit from 'Sky Lab' a dome experience in which we learn all about life on earth 200 millions years ago.

In writing we will continue to use phonics to sound out words and will be learning how to spell key words. The children will be learning about sentence structure and basic punctuation. We will be thinking about how to improve our writing by reading what we have read and editing sections to make a good sentence into a great sentence!

We will of course be very busy in other areas of the curriculum. Click on the Curriculum Overview link below for more details.
