Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

In Year 6 we have two classes.

Mr Champion teaches 6C and Mr Robinson teaches 6R.

Throughout the year, the classes will also be taught by Mr Waddington, Mrs Bolland, Mrs Lock and Mrs Goodheart. Our wonderful teaching assistants are Mrs Newman and Ms Jenner.

We have a super term planned for the Spring.  To begin with, we will be studying the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll and creating our own dramatic performances and making clay models.  After this, our focus moves on to War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.  We will be using this text to inspire our writing during literacy.  It will also be used as a history and geography resource, helping us to understand the lives of soldier and animals in WW1.

We will of course be very busy in other areas of the curriculum.  Please see the link below to our Curriculum Overview for more details.

The children’s PE lessons are on Wednesday and Friday.  However, we ask that the children have their kits in school all week.  Please help us by labelling every piece of clothing your child brings to school.

It is of course vital that you hear your child read as often as possible. We ask the children to get at least three signatures in their reading diaries a week.

The children also receive spellings, times tables to practice every week. There will be an informal spelling test every Friday and math homework will be given out on a Tuesday and be expected in the following Friday.

We hope the children really enjoy Year 6 and please book an appointment to talk to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns.
