Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

In Year 6 we have two classes.

Mr Champion teaches 6C and Mr Robinson teaches 6R.

Throughout the year, the classes will also be taught by Mr Waddington, Mrs Bolland, Mrs Lock and Mrs Goodheart. Our wonderful teaching assistants are Mrs Newman and Ms Jenner.

We have a super term planned for the Autumn. Our topic is Rivers. As part of this we investigate the great rivers, learning about their geographical, historical and cultural impact on the world. We then narrow our study to the River Arun. We will use it to learn about the different features of a river and its impact on the environment. Our study will include a field trip to see the river and a chance to carry out a variety of scientific experiments.

We will of course be very busy in other areas of the curriculum and look forward to inviting parents to our end of term Christmas carol concert.

Please see the Curriculum Overview for more details.

The children’s PE lessons are on Monday and Wednesday. However, we ask that the children have their kits in school all week. Please help us by labelling every piece of clothing your child brings to school.

It is of course vital that you hear your child read as often as possible. We ask the children to get at least three signatures in their reading diaries a week.

The children also receive spellings, times tables to practice and homework every week.

There will be an informal spelling test every Friday and math homework will be set online every Tuesday and completed by the following Friday.

We hope the children really enjoy Year 6 and please book an appointment to talk to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns.
