At Edward Bryant School, peer mediation is at the core of how we manage children’s behaviour. Peer mediation is a conflict resolution technique that trains children to resolve conflicts through discussion, reflection and brainstorming. In our school, we teach the children the many different aspect of conflict resolution. Our Year 6 children have the opportunity to become volunteer mediators and work with their peers to help resolve low level conflicts, address bullying, and help make our school a calmer and friendlier place to be. The curriculum-based scheme is supported by school staff who have also received mediation skills training.
Peer Mediation has proved to be a powerful, positive initiative because it offers effective life skills, conflict resolution tools and support to anti-bullying strategies in our school.
